Hashtag #fitnessaddict hashtag #GOALS! Amiright?!

We are a society addicted to body transformations.

However, these transformations are no longer over months or years but, “BIKINI BODY IN 90-DAYS, 6 week plans, 7-DAY before and afters”.  And this has been causing a lot of women in the online fitness community a whole lot of problems; including yours truly.  

We take before photos and then hop on the ‘fitness bandwagon’ not realizing that some of us are opening the door to a world of problems – where all of our issues with control and perfectionism can run rampant.  Where jealousy and comparison thrive. And where – even when we get the, “body of our dreams” we still end up feeling inadequate and “not good enough”.

For the past year I’ve been ruminating around the question: “Is it possible to engage in the black hole of social media - for the incredible community support - and not fall into these #fitnessaddict traps?”

I don't have the answer yet - so a few days ago I asked my incredible followers how they find balance.  The feedback was amazing! (Thank you to all who took the time to write me back!)  Below is a summary of their suggestions:

MINDSET

Limit workouts to 3 – 4 per week

Schedule in rest days

Find movement you love

Include friends, where possible

Try shorter more intense workouts, then take a rest day

Find joy in the movement, not the transformation

Try to avoid jumping on bandwagons, do what feels right to you

Don’t feel the need to stick to one specific program

Schedule classes at the gym

Keep a simple mindset

This may take trial and error. That’s OK
