Revisiting your January Intentions during the first New Moon

January 16th, 2018

This is the first new moon of 2018.  A wonderful time to look at the intentions you set for yourself at the turn of the year. A time to reflect on the ones you are holding onto  tightly and perhaps the others you have already started to let go.

This first New Moon in Capricorn is occurring during a rare and powerful gathering of planets called a Stellium.   Our New Moon, Saturn, Mercury, Pluto, Venus and the Sun are all aligned in the nights’ sky under the sign of Capricorn.  This is an uncommon and exceptional event.

There is a powerful energy surrounding us right now.

January 2018

A few items to gather before we begin:

Your favorite pen, a note pad or a single piece of paper, a quiet corner of your home (preferably near a window), the list of intentions you set at the beginning of January (on paper, or in your mind)

Pour some tea, light incense, a candle, or diffuse some oil; find a crystal, stone or a favorite piece of jewelry

This practice can be as long or as short as you want it to be.  This is your practice.  There is no wrong way.

The Practice

Under the starry night sky take a moment to reflect.

Place a crystal (stone or jewelry) in one hand

Place your other hand over your heart

Centre yourself with a few long deep breaths.

Pull your mind and body into this moment.

As you breathe, picture this rare planetary alignment:  the glowing golds and pale yellows of Venus and Saturn, the light greys and browns of Mercury and Pluto, all huddled together with our Moon and the Sun.

Feel the energy in the stone that you are holding. Move it around in your hand. Feel its edges. Notice its weight. This stone is made up of the same elements that are in the planet you are visualizing in your mind.

Feel the connection. The oneness.

Take as long as you need to settle in to your breath.

Feel the expanse of this moment, the vastness of our universe

Open your eyes and bring yourself back to your body

Envision your intentions from the start of the year.

One by one, read them out loud or quietly in your mind.

And pause.

How do you feel about each intention?

Is this intention aligned with your soul?

Do not ask your mind, but instead ask your body.

Again, read or think in your mind about your intention. Tune into the sensations of your body and notice any changes. When you envision your intention do you feel any contractions or blocked spaces in your body, or do you sense a feeling of openness and acceptance. Notice if your breathing changed. Did it become slower and deeper, or is there a tenseness or a constriction in your breath.

Continue this practice until you have completed reflecting on all of your intentions

Take a few moments to center back on your breath.  Slow, deep, long.

Take your pen and make notes on your experience and write down a new list of intentions that you were guided to by this New Moon.
